Every child deserves to write their own fate.

भाग्य (bhagya): fate, in Nepali
About Bhagya Nepal

We help children in Nepal stay in school and build their future.

A child’s future can be shaped long before they have any say in it: the village they’re born in, their family’s circumstances, the opportunities within reach, or the moment a crisis changes everything.

We believe those things should shape a child’s starting point, not their destiny. Bhagya Nepal exists to change what comes next: access to education, mentorship a child can count on, and guidance through the years after.

Change rarely arrives all at once. It comes from consistent, deliberate acts, enough for a child to stay in school, regain confidence, and imagine a future beyond their circumstances.

With and without Bhagya Nepal

One girl. Two possible lives.

The same corner of the same home, year after year: the life she would have without help, and the life that opens up when someone stays by her side.

Without Bhagya Nepal

School exists. But so does everything that makes it unreachable.

With Bhagya Nepal

Someone sits beside her. Asks what she doesn’t understand. Comes back tomorrow.

Age10
Without Bhagya Nepal

The days fill with other things. Quietly. Without anyone deciding it out loud.

With Bhagya Nepal

She is still in school. The guidance doesn’t stop when things get difficult.

Age14
Without Bhagya Nepal

The decisions that shape a life begin to be made. Not by her.

With Bhagya Nepal

She sets direction. Not because someone chose for her, but because she had space to choose.

Age18
Without Bhagya Nepal

A future arrives. Smaller than it needed to be. Not because she was less.

With Bhagya Nepal

She graduates. Earns. Gives back. The story isn’t finished. It’s hers, and she continues to write it.

Same child. Same village. Same start. What changed was education, mentorship, and someone who stayed.

The same corner: the nail empty, an exercise book open on the table, a woman’s sandals beside the child’s
The uniform outgrown and dusty on the nail, a basket of firewood and a water pot beneath it
Her school bag on the nail, textbooks and a study lamp on the table, school shoes beside the woman’s sandals
Red bangles and a folded red shawl laid over her closed school bag
Her study timetable and a certificate pinned to the wall, her notebook open on the table
Worn work gloves, a travel bundle and a bus ticket on the table, an old shawl on the nail
A new small school uniform on the nail for a younger child, her graduation certificate on the table

Pooja Pyakurel, founder of Bhagya Nepal
In her words

“I grew up in a children’s home. Despite that, I was given something that changed everything: a good education. But while I had an education, I didn’t have someone who stayed. No family, no adult to guide me or be there as I navigated the hard parts.

Every child deserves someone who stays, who is still there when life gets difficult. I built Bhagya Nepal to give children what I had and what I didn’t: a real chance at an education, and someone who stays. Who shows up again tomorrow. Who is still there when the hard part comes.”

What we do

What Bhagya Nepal does, and why it matters.

Bhagya Nepal works with children whose circumstances have already decided their future for them, not because of who they are, but because of what surrounds them. We provide education, mentorship, and sustained guidance, not to write their story for them, but to give each child the stability and support to write it themselves.

Sustained Guidance

Our vision

A world where the circumstances a child is born into have no power over the life they are capable of living.

How we work

How we do what we do

We find children whose circumstances have already written a future for them, and we interrupt that. Not with a single intervention, not with a cheque, not with a one-year programme. We sit beside them, support their learning, pair them with a mentor, and stay present through every year that follows.

Education

Getting a child into a classroom, and keeping them there. We cover what quietly keeps children out: fees, uniforms, books, transport. Then we watch attendance, notice when someone falls behind, and stay in contact with families and schools. The aim is not enrolment. It is finishing.

Mentorship

One person who knows the child, listens, and keeps showing up. For the children we support, that person is Pooja, the steady presence she never had herself. Specialist help is brought in when it’s needed. The constancy is not.

Sustained presence

We measure our work in years, not programme cycles. We stay through school and past it, through the transition into adulthood: the part where guidance is rarest and matters most.

Beyond the child

When one fate is rewritten, it rarely rewrites only one.

The impact of a child in school reaches further than the child. A mother, freed from worry about her daughter’s education, can focus on her own livelihood. A family that once couldn’t be sure of tomorrow begins to plan for next year. A parent, watching their child thrive, finds a reason to change.
